Formed in January 2011 to raise the profile of May Day as not just International Workers Day but as a day which has been celebrated by ordinary people over the centuries. We aim to bring back the joy of May Day, to enable individuals and communities to participate in a celebration of life and work. Like our forbears we will celebrate the end of winter and coming of summer, but we will also celebrate labour day and the solidarity of working people and their families. In this, our second year, we are starting off in a modest way but in future years we hope to extend the programme of events and activities and to engage with groups of workers and communities in developing an understanding of the traditions of May day as well as celebrating the lives of ordinary people.
